Southampton Arts Center Techspressionism: Digital and Beyond
On Saturday morning April 23rd, the day of the opening, sitting on a bench in the Southampton Arts Center Techspressionism: Digital and Beyond Art Exhibition, Gene Miller got the AR software to work, that enables my AR sculpture to materialize in the space in front of ExcerptsW, my Mixed Reality painting, on the wall, in which my 3DVR sculpture is captured. The fabulous Southampton Art Center staff scrambled to get a QR code printed on sticky paper and onto the wall next to my painting so that anyone visiting the exhibition can experience this AR sculpture as part of ExcerptsW, my MR artwork.
The Southampton Arts Center Techspressionism: Digital and Beyond Exhibition is excellent. I was so happy to see and experience all the innovative and creative ways Artists are using digital technologies to make art. This is really the first exhibition of such a broad scope of digital artworks, where the work is at a top professional level. An artist in this exhibition himself, Colin Goldberg, curated and installed this seminal Art Exhibition, that includes 94 artists from around the world, all using digital technology to make art. In the same momentous spirit as Jascha Reinhardt’s Cybernetic Serendipity all those years ago, which Alvy Ray Smith pointed out to me yesterday, Colin Goldberg coined the term Techspressionism and mounted this ground-breaking Art Exhibition.
